U15 boys played their Division 5 Hurling final today away to St Finians of Swords. It was played in windy conditions on the all weather pitch in Rivervalley. The Westmanstown lads had the wind in the first half and needed to make it count.

They got off to a flying start with Aidan Doyle deadly accurate on the frees knocking over point after point. It wasn't long before the big full forward, Eoin Murphy, got in on the act knocking over a few scores. Senan Farrell and Sean O Brien were everywhere at midfield and Senan topped it off with a couple of points.

The defending from the Westmanstown Gaels team was tenacious to say the least and nothing got past the iron curtain of a half back line with Jack Sheridan and team captain Daniel White blocking and hooking everything out wide. Centre back Morgan Gladney was rock solid, as always, the half forward line put in a huge effort in the first half, Ewan Trunk, Darragh Burns and the aforementioned Aidan Doyle putting some great moves together.

On the odd occasion the Finians lads did get near goal they were met by the brilliant full back line with Luke Birmingham at full back making some huge clearances and Colm Murphy making an unbelievable hook to snuf out a goal chance. Adam Kelly in the other corner was also on top form and let nothing past him. Up front Eoin Murphy led the line with Sean Lynch working tirelessly and with a great point from Sean Solan just before the break giving the Westmanstown a 0-10 to 0-01 lead at half time.

Two changes at half time brought Charlie Mooney into the half forward line and Harry Walsh in at corner forward to add some fresh legs against a stiff wind in the second half.

As expected the Finians lads came out firing after the break and got a couple of quick scores but the the Westmanstown defenders put the breaks on them and with an unbelievable work rate cleared ball after ball. This is when goalkeeper Alex O Neill became hugely important with his puck outs. He began to drop them out to the sideline where half time sub Charlie Mooney soared into the air and made some unbelievable catches to win possession for Westmanstown. He also chipped in with two fine points to keep the gap between the teams.

Harry Walsh also put in a huge second half even though he was a corner forward he was often found working back into the half back line.

A goal from Finians late into injury time wasn't enough as the lads from Westmanstown capped off a great year with a superb win
